District 2 Candidate - Terri Anne Gibson
I am currently completing my third year on the CPBC Board and serving as Vice-Chair, seeking re-election for a second term. It is with gratitude that I acknowledge the importance of the land I call home, which is the ancestral territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, and in particular, the Kwantlen and Katzie First Nations.
The last three years have brought significant change to the pharmacy landscape within British Columbia, requiring thoughtful and balanced decision-making at the Board table. Some of these key changes have included: prescribing for minor ailments and contraception; expanding the range of medications that can be injected in pharmacies; lowering the minimum age for administering a medication by injection; removing a number of restrictions around adaptations; and approving an Indigenous Cultural Safety, Humility, and Anti-Racism Practice Standard.
While these changes have been exciting and impactful for British Columbians, I believe there is more change ahead and more work to be done to continue to make pharmacy practice safer, higher quality, and more inclusive, upholding our mandate of regulating the pharmacy profession in the public interest. This includes modernization and decolonization of CPBC’s bylaws, policies, and practices; sound financial stewardship; engagement with both the public and registrants as well as increased transparency of our work; and ensuring that CPBC’s strategic plan is aligned with the current realities of the pharmacy profession, identifying and addressing the issues which affect our ability to deliver safe and ethical care. While change cannot always be swift, it must always be meaningful: I am fully committed to this principle, and to being a steadfast, intentional change-maker within a complex and multifaceted system.
