What the College Can Investigate

The College has the authority under the Health Professions and Occupations Act to gather information and investigate complaints and concerns received about the conduct or competence of licensed pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Each complaint and/or concern is assessed to determine the best approach to resolve the issue and to protect patient safety.

What the College Cannot Investigate 

The College cannot investigate or resolve concerns that fall outside of our jurisdiction. 

The College is not able to: 

  • Compensate anyone (monetary or non-monetary).Those seeking remuneration for harm caused by a pharmacist or pharmacy technician should speak with a lawyer;
  • Investigate the involvement of unregulated and/or non-pharmacy health professionals;
  • Investigate workplace issues or regulate employment relationships;
  • Direct or provide visibility into a pharmacy or other organization’s own internal investigation;
  • Provide pharmaceutical analysis or testing for any drug products;
  • Become involved in a fee dispute between a licensee and another party;
  • Order a pharmacist to provide certain treatment to a client;
  • Provide clinical advice or treatment;
  • Provide referrals;
  • Mediate business disputes between licensees;
  • Provide legal advice;
  • Resolve billing issues (eg. PharmaCare deductibles, prescription pricing, refunds);
  • Resolve issues related to poor customer service.
