I would like to acknowledge the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the homelands of the kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), q̓ic̓əy̓ (Katzie), qʼʷa:n̓ ƛʼən̓ (Kwantlen), qiqéyt (Qayqayt), and Stó:lō (Sto:lo) First Nations. I am honoured and privileged to be able to live and work in this amazing place we call British Columbia, a place we all call home, and I am immensely grateful to Coast Salish Peoples who have been the stewards of this land since time immemorial.

I am seeking election to the Board of the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia as the member from District 6 (Urban Hospitals).

Between 2015-19, I served as a member of the College Board. My time on the Board was a rewarding experience, and I would value the opportunity to continue my contribution to the College and the profession in service of the public’s interest. My previous experience will be a valuable asset to the new Board, as I will bring key institutional knowledge and context to inform the Board’s decision-making process. Through my College experience, I developed skills, knowledge, and attributes that align with the Board Composition Matrix, such as leadership, governance, health professional regulation, cultural humility, organizational decision-making, and financial literacy. As a member of the Board, I served as Chair from 2018-19 and Vice-Chair from 2017-18. Furthermore, I served as Chair of the Registrar Evaluation and Succession Planning Committee, Governance Committee, and Hospital Pharmacy Advisory Committee, and was a member of the Audit and Finance Committee and Ethics Advisory Committee. I currently still serve on the Pharmacy Advisory Committee and Past Chairs Advisory Committee. As Chair of the Board, I oversaw the development of the College’s 2020-21 Strategic Plan, and have since familiarized myself with the current Strategic Plan that was updated in 2022-23 to better align with the College’s priorities and healthcare environment in British Columbia. I commend the College’s commitment to ensure Indigenous Peoples have access to culturally safe pharmacy care, and look forward to continuing to advance this important work.

My diverse education and experience would bring a unique perspective to the Board in accordance with the Board Composition Matrix. I have over 18 years of experience as a pharmacist in both community- and hospital-based settings both in British Columbia and Alberta. I have experience in multiple health authority-based practice settings including inpatient care, ambulatory care, and primary care. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of British Columbia in 2006 and 2010, respectively, and Pharmacy Practice Residency with Vancouver Coastal Health—Providence Health Care in 2008. I completed a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in cardiovascular pharmacotherapy from the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 2012. I am currently a Clinical Pharmacy and Research Specialist with Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services at the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre in Surrey, and an Associate Professor (Partner) with the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia. I also have recent experience in community-based practice, such as performing medication reviews for patients with cardiovascular disease.

I believe in the mandate of the College to regulate pharmacies and pharmacy professionals in the interest of the public, and recognize that it is a privilege for our profession to self-regulate. I would be grateful for the opportunity to support the College’s new Commitment Statement and Organizational Values to ensure all British Columbians receive culturally safe, patient-centric, and equitable pharmacy care.
