College of Pharmacists of BC 125th Anniversary Conference

The College of Pharmacists of BC celebrated its 125th Anniversary by hosting a conference packed full of pharmacy topics for pharmacy professionals! With learning opportunities stretching from compounding to physical assessment and health tech, these presentations will help prepare you for the future of pharmacy in BC.

The 125th Anniversary Conference Program has been accredited for 4.5 CEUs for 1 year by UBC’s Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development (CPPD) for those who attended in-person or online on September 17, 2016. The Health Tech Panel also provided an additional 45 minutes of unaccredited CE. If you attended the in-person conference or online webcast on September 17, 2016 and did not receive a program evaluation from the College, please contact [email protected]

Back to the Future - Bob Nakagawa

Bob will present on the evolution of pharmacy practice from the 1980’s to today. From important highlights in the practice to the available resources and drug costs, Bob will take you on an adventure back to the future of pharmacy.

Improving Patient Outcomes Through Collaboration - Phil Emberley

Phil will present on the importance of a collaborative pharmacy team, and ways how pharmacy professionals can leverage opportunities to collaborate within the pharmacy to improve patient outcomes.

Cultural Safety and Humility - Katie Procter

Katie will present on the importance and value of cultural sensitivity and how health care professionals can improve their relationships with First Nations patients in order to promote better health outcomes.

Physical Examination & Clinical Pharmacy Practice in BC - Sean Spina

Sean will present on the importance and value of having pharmacists perform physical assessments on their patients in order to gain a complete picture of the efficacy and toxicity of the patient’s drug therapy.

Panel: Rachel Barker, Aaron Sihota, Nicole Tsao
Moderated by: André Picard

André Picard will moderate a panel discussion on how health care technology is helping shape the future of patient care. Panelists have backgrounds in using SMS technology to follow up on patient medication adherence, creating a community of global digital health innovators, and managing a Vancouver-based chapter of a global community that connects health care professionals with designers and developers to create human-centric solutions to front-line issues.

Developing Follow-up and Monitoring Plans - Peter Loewen

Peter will present on the importance and value of thorough patient follow-ups and will share how to develop an effective monitoring plan to ensure your patients achieve the best health outcomes.

Non-Prescription Naloxone - Jessica Bridgeman

Jessica will present on the importance and value of non-prescription naloxone. Naloxone requires extensive patient education and training, and she will walk you through the key takeaways in order to counsel patients on this life-saving drug.

Compounding - Tamar Koleba

Tamar will present on the importance and value of pharmacy compounding in BC. She will cover the foundations of compounding practice, from practice standards to the different types of pharmacy compounding.
