Meet the Newly Elected College Board
Election season has come to a close, and not just for the U.S. The College Board held elections across half of its electoral districts and also elected a new Chair and Vice-Chair.
Elections in Districts 2, 4, and 6 ran from September 2, 2016 to October 7, 2016 – eligible pharmacy professionals cast their vote for candidates online.
Elections for Chair and Vice-Chair occur every year at the November Board Meeting and terms for those elected to the College Board also begin as part of the November Board Meeting.

Anar Dossa - Chair
District 6: Urban Hospitals Representative
Anar Dossa was newly elected as Board Chair at the College’s November Board meeting and was re-elected as the District 6: Urban Hospitals representative. This is Anara’s third term as the Urban Hospitals Representative and second term as Chair. She also served as Vice-Chair over the past year.
Anar is a pharmacist and certified diabetes educator with over 25 years of experience in hospital, community and ambulatory pharmacy practice. She works with the Pharmacy Operations Team at Vancouver General Hospital and GF Strong where she coordinates pharmacy services involving a staff of 150 pharmacists, technicians and assistants. As a Clinical Assistant Professor, she teaches at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UBC. She is involved in team-based care and has been invited to speak at local, national and international conferences. Her goal is to promote public safety through collaborative practice.
Mona Kwong - Vice-Chair
District 1: Metropolitan Vancouver Representative
Mona Kwong is newly elected Board Vice-Chair. Mona is also the representative for District 1: Metropolitan Vancouver.
Mona brings 20 years of pharmacy experience, working as a staff pharmacist, clinical pharmacist, pharmacy manager and owner. From 2005-2011, she was a faculty member at the UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and continues to educate pharmacists through different workshops and initiatives. She is committed to enabling pharmacists to practice to the fullest extent of their abilities through meaningful collaboration with the pharmacy community and other health care professionals.
Ming Chang
District 2: Fraser valley
Entering his 2nd term, Ming Chang was re-elected as the Fraser Valley representative.
Ming is a pharmacy manager at a community pharmacy. He has experience as a relief pharmacist and has practised in renal care and central fill settings since becoming registered in 2009. He is a certified injection pharmacist and serves on several committees and councils in the pharmacy profession.
Chris Szeman
District 4: kootenay/okanagan
Chris Szeman joins the board as its newest member and Kootenay/Okanagan representative.
Chris is a community pharmacy manager in Vernon, BC. As a frontline pharmacist with over 19 years of experience, he is actively engaged in advancing the scope of his practice and improving patient outcomes by placing added focus on areas such as diabetes education, travel pharmacy, and medication reviews. He is a certified injection pharmacist and has experience working with Assisted Living homes. Having started his career in the Fraser Valley before moving to Vernon, Chris has an intimate understanding of the unique needs of those living in small communities across BC.
We are excited to welcome Chris to The College and look forward to his contributions and unique perspectives.
Sorell Wellon
District 8: Pharmacy Technicians
Sorell Wellon was elected into her first official board term as the Pharmacy Technician representative, though she joined the board close to a year ago.
Sorell brings 14 years of experience as a pharmacy technician. Her passion for pharmacy and teaching continues to grow along with her dedication to the pharmacy technician profession. In 2011, Sorell became one of the first pharmacy technicians licensed in BC as part of the inaugural group of Registered Pharmacy Technicians for British Columbia. She also helped teach the online Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program for the University of British Columbia from 2011 to 2013.
Sorell has been an instructor for the Pharmacy Technician Program at both Nanaimo and Duncan Community Colleges and earned a Provincial Instructors Diploma.
