International Pharmacy Graduates (IPGs) now have a new entryway into Canadian pharmacy.
The National Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Authorities (NAPRA) launched its new website www.pharmacistsgatewaycanada.ca on June 25, 2014. The new IPG Gateway to Canada Project will assist international pharmacists in their transition to Canadian practice.
The project will be in effect across all Canadian jurisdictions, and will be mandatory in BC. There are currently 620 International Pharmacy Graduates (IPGs) currently registered to practice across the province.
Currently, IPGs must determine whether they are recognized to practice in Canada by contacting the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC), and then contacting the College to determine whether they meet additional criteria.
The IPG Gateway to Canada Project will streamline registration processes across Canada and create a central access point for those interested in practicing pharmacy in Canada. In addition to the website, the project includes useful online self-assessment tools to determine preparedness to transition into Canadian pharmacy practice. It will also identify any gaps in pharmacy skills as compared to Canadian requirements.
