Seeking BC Pharmacists’ Feedback: Proposed New UBC Interprofessional Online Graduate Certificate Program
In effective healthcare systems, policy decisions must be informed by evidence, economic evaluation, and equity. With ever-increasing innovations, alternative models of care, and new interventions in publicly funded healthcare systems, evaluation of evidence is key to the development of policy and to the effective delivery of care. Decisions, methods, and strategies that enable policymaking also require consideration of economics, equity, and politics, and the understanding of the “big picture” of how resources are distributed across the healthcare sector.
To enhance pharmacists’ preparedness for decision-making roles in the healthcare sector we are developing a new interprofessional, online graduate certificate program in collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine’s School of Population and Public Health and the School of Nursing. We are seeking your feedback to assist us in its development.
Designed for professionals wishing to enhance their preparedness for decision-making roles in the healthcare sector, this 4-course interprofessional online graduate certificate program will explore how evidence, economic evaluation and equity inform policy decisions in healthcare, and how these impact regulation, organizations, government, and patient care. These courses will challenge participants to consider the impact of politics and policy on healthcare innovations, alternative models of care, and new interventions, while imparting the critical skills required to appraise evidence, apply economic evaluation, and consider equity to support policymaking. The program will provide knowledge and skills that will enable participants to: apply clinical, economic, and system evaluations toward the understanding of policy decisions around innovations, alternative models of care, and interventions in healthcare; and consider societal perspectives and the implications of politics, equity, and policy on the development, evaluation, and application of innovations, alternative models of care, and interventions in healthcare.
While this online certificate program is being designed as a standalone professional credential, its 4 courses will also be part of the required coursework for the upcoming Master of Pharmacy Leadership (MPL) program we are building.
As the Faculty lead for the design and development of this new graduate certificate program, I am inviting your thoughts and ideas about this upcoming opportunity for pharmacists. We would value your input on the proposed curriculum, program design, and your potential interest in this exciting upcoming educational opportunity, via a brief survey. Kindly please click on the link below to complete it no later than August 9. Your responses will be kept confidential, and all data will be stored on Canadian servers.
