The Practice Review Program consists of two parts: the Pharmacy Review and the Pharmacy Professionals Review. The Pharmacy Review builds off the previous inspections process while the Pharmacy Professionals Review is based on observing pharmacists and pharmacy technicians as they perform their work in the pharmacy.
Selected pharmacy managers were contacted 30 days in advance of the proposed review dates to schedule staff and complete the Pharmacy Pre-Review, a tool for managers to prepare for the Pharmacy Review. Here is some feedback from pharmacy managers on the Pharmacy Pre-Review:
- “[The Pre-Review] is a blessing in disguise…it’s ‘free’ help to assess the pharmacy.”
- “I feel pretty confident after completing the Pharmacy Pre-Review."
- “The support tools are helpful... have a lot of information.”
- “The hyperlinks linked to legislation are handy.”
- “Very helpful…a lot to read but helpful. I want to complete the Pharmacy Pre-Review every 2 years, [it’s] a good way to refresh legislation."
Compliance Officers visited the first set of pharmacies on February 16.
New program applies to all registrants
Now that the Practice Review Program is underway, the College would like to remind all registrants that it applies to everyone – there are no exceptions. Considerations will be made in order to schedule around extenuating circumstances however further delays impact the overall program scheduling process.
As this is a brand new program, previous assessment models do not carry over into the Practice Review Program. A Pharmacy Professionals Review is a completely different assessment model and all registrants will be reviewed within the six-year timeframe regardless of previous assessments.
Accurate e-Services profile ensures easy planning process
It is important to ensure that your eServices profile is up-to-date, specifically your email address and primary work location. While planning for the first set of practice reviews, it was discovered that some pharmacies had twice as many employees than what was listed on their roster.
- Registrants: log on to eServices to update your information.
- Pharmacy manager: contact our Licensure department to update your information.
As eServices is a central piece of the Practice Review Program planning process, it is vital that registrant information is correct.
