The 123rd Annual General Meeting of the College of Pharmacists of BC took place on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Marriot Pinnacle Hotel.
Newly elected Board Chair Anar Dossa (District 6 – Urban Hospitals) called the meeting to order at 8:03 a.m. and welcomed over 45 attendees. She spoke on behalf of the Board, and read the chair’s report from former Chair Doug Kipp, as he was unable to attend.
Registrar Bob Nakagawa also presented different initiatives undertaken by the College and shared the results of this year’s Board election.
The Board was well represented, and included newly elected Board members Blake Reynolds (District 4 – Kootenay/Okanagan) and Ming Chang (District 2 – Fraser Valley). Newly elected Vice-Chair Blair Tymchuk (Vice-Chair, District 3 - Vancouver Island/Coastal) was also present.
There was also a touching tribute to former Registrar Norm Thomas, who passed away earlier this year in June. He was Registrar for 17 years from 1978 until his retirement in 1995.
The College also announced the Norman Thomas Memorial Bursary, a $4000 annual bursary which will be awarded to an exemplary UBC student in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences beginning in May 2015.
The College was also pleased to have had Norm’s wife Cathy, and their four grandchildren Natalie Tole, Ben Tole, Catrina Thomas and Emma Seabach in attendance.
