Annual UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Award Program Recognizes Valuable Contributions of Pharmacist Practice Educators
UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Office of Experiential Education: Pharmacy Practice Educator of the Year Awards
Each year, undergraduate students in the entry-to-practice pharmacy degree programs at the University of British Columbia (UBC) have the opportunity to apply and integrate their knowledge and skills during their experiential education placements across the province. The opportunity for student pharmacists to engage and interact with the public during all four years of their program would not be possible without the guidance, supervision, and mentorship of our many dedicated pharmacist practice educators. Despite their busy practices, our practice educators volunteer their valued time to support student learning. Many of them also dedicate their time to support the Structured Practical Training practicums for the UBC Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development Canadian Pharmacy Practice program.
It is our honour to recognize the critical role our practice educators have in providing structured learning opportunities for students to develop the knowledge, skills, and professional attributes necessary to implement best practices to support optimal and safe patient outcomes through pharmacy practice in BC. Interactions on practicum further develop our students’ abilities in communicating with, advocating for, and caring for patients from urban centers to rural locations.
Annually, our students recognize and nominate exemplary practice educators for the Pharmacy Practice Educator of the Year Award. Students are able to voluntarily submit their nominations for those practice educators they feel have gone above and beyond for them, inspiring those around them with their engagement and passion for the pharmacy profession. These nominations are then adjudicated by the Faculty’s Office of Experiential Education.
