Guest Post: Canadian Patient Safety Week focuses on Medication Safety
Medication safety – This year, the theme of Canadian Patient Safety Week revolves around you:
As a pharmacy professional, you have probably already heard about 5 Questions to ask about your medications and the Take With Questions campaign developed to get healthcare providers and the public talking to each other before mistakes happen.
Canadian Patient Safety Week kicks off Monday October 30, and continues for five days to celebrate ways to improve medication safety. There are so many ways to get involved:
Print off the 5 Questions to Ask About Your Medications, give it out with every order you dispense, and encourage conversations with your clients.
Challenge yourself – the Take with Questions Quiz is accessible on any device with an internet connection and includes a provider version for you, and a patient’s version for the public. Take the quiz, share the link, and organize friendly competitions among colleagues and friends.
People tell us that our patient videos make it clear why safety improvement is everyone’s business. These moving stories result from patients and providers who have the courage to come forward and share their experiences to drive positive improvement in Canada’s healthcare system. Check our website often as both a new patient and a new provider video will be premiered that week.
NEW this year – we have a podcast series! PATIENT podcast series explores medication safety through a nonfiction medical drama about the people trying to fix modern healthcare from the inside out. Listen here for a teaser – and tune in beginning October 30th for the full version. Additional all-new episodes air on Wednesday November 1st and Friday November 3rd. The focus is medication and the power of a prescription.
How can we start a dialogue across Canada to improve healthcare safety? Verna Yiu, the president and CEO of Alberta Health Services speaks with experts and the public in a virtual National Conversation broadcast LIVE on the Internet at 7:00 AM Pacific Monday October 30th. Register Here to be sent the link and a calendar invitation in advance – or simply log on to our website that morning to watch. The conversation will also be recorded for later viewing.
