On September 15, 2015, the College launched DrugSafeBC, the public awareness campaign to inform British Columbians about new security measures designed to deter pharmacy robberies. The purpose of DrugSafeBC is to reduce pharmacy robberies and the amount of narcotics that end up on our streets. Time delay safes and standard signage are critical security measures to achieving these goals. In addition to standard signage provided to all community pharmacies, the DrugSafeBC campaign features print, radio and television ads, and social media, to build awareness of the new time delay safes.
The College is working closely with the Vancouver Police Department and others on the DrugSafeBC campaign to help achieve safer pharmacies and safer communities. College Board Chair Anar Dossa and Vancouver Police Chief Constable Adam Palmer collectively launched the campaign and addressed the media at a Pharmasave in Vancouver. The College is also continuing to work with the VPD and other police departments to continue to build awareness of DrugSafeBC.
Vancouver police Chief Const. Adam Palmer said he expects the program to have a “huge impact” both in curbing the flow of dangerous narcotics from pharmacies onto the street, as well as protecting pharmacists and the public during robberies.
We’d like to thank community pharmacies across BC for their role in DrugSafeBC through their implementation of time delay safes and signage. Together we are standing up for the safety of our pharmacies and the safety of our communities.
If your pharmacy requires DrugSafeBC signage, you can easily order the standardized signage free of cost through the Online Store in eServices.
