The launch of the National Pharmacy Technician Bridging Program this September will have an impact on pharmacy assistants in the “current” pathway working towards registration as a pharmacy technician. If you are in the “current” pathway, you are now required to complete both the Jurisprudence Exam (JE) and the Professional Practice course.
This change in requirement was made necessary by the removal of content specific to BC from the Professional Practice Course to ensure relevance for all students across Canada. While we understand this change may be an inconvenience, the completion of the JE exam is the most effective way for the College to ensure that newly registered pharmacy technicians in BC have a good understanding of provincial legislation relevant to the practice of the profession. These changes also ensure consistency in provinces with regulated technicians: BC, Alberta, and Ontario now all have the same requirement for both the exam and the course.
