The University of British Columbia (UBC) is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Coughtrie has been appointed dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences for a five year term commencing August 1, 2013. His appointment follows an extensive national and international search process. Dr. Coughtrie is currently a Professor of Biochemical Pharmacology and Operations Director of the Medical Research Institute, University of Dundee, Scotland.
Dr. Coughtrie will bring to the Faculty a wealth of leadership experience gained through his 27-year career at the University of Dundee. In 1986, after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry followed by his PhD, Dr. Coughtrie embarked on his professional research and teaching career. He was awarded a Personal Chair in Biochemical Pharmacology and was head of the Division of Pathology and Neuroscience (2003-2008) and Director of the Division of Medical Sciences (2008-2011) before commencing his current position as Operations Director.
