What’s in a Name? College Explores
Official Name Change
The College of Pharmacists of British Columbia has been in operation for the past 125 years, but that hasn’t always been our name. When we were first founded by T.M. Henderson in 1891, we were known as the Pharmaceutical Association of British Columbia. It wasn’t until 1967 when we created two separate bodies, a regulator and an advocacy body, that we started using our current name.
When we began regulating pharmacy technicians in 2010, we recognized that there was a gap in our name. Several Canadian pharmacy regulators who register pharmacy technicians are facing the same challenge (see below):

Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals* *In October 2015, the Saskatchewan regulator changed its official name from the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacists to the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals |
Now we want to know how pharmacy professionals and the public feel about a College name change.
Let us know by filling out this short survey today: http://fluidsurveys.com/s/CPBC-Name_Change/ (survey is now closed).
The survey will be open until Monday, September 5, at 5PM.
This is the first step in exploring a name change. The survey results will be presented to the Board at the September Board meeting for a decision.
An official name change takes considerable time, as it requires the Legislature to pass legislation to amend not just the Health Professions Act, but also amend any legislation that names the College.
As the provincial pharmacy regulator, we are committed to regulating – and accurately representing – the pharmacy profession.
