The UBC Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences has created the Initiative for Sustainable Health Care, a joint initiative between the pharmaceutical industry, government and the University.
The initiative was created to provide a neutral, balancing voice and opportunities for dialogue and research on economic principles of health care sustainability, with a focus on pharmacists and pharmaceuticals in effecting change. It also includes a professorship.
The Professorship for Sustainable Health Care was awarded to Assistant Professor Mark Harrison.
Eleven industry partners jointly provided the $2.4-million dollar funds. These companies include: Amgen Canada Inc.; AstraZeneca Canada Inc.; Eli Lilly Canada Inc.; GlaxoSmithKline Inc.; Merck Canada Inc.; Novartis Pharmaceuticals Canada Inc.; Pfizer Canada Incorporated; Boehringer Ingelheim (Canada) Ltd.; Hoffman-La Roche Ltd.; LifeScan Canada Ltd.; and Lundbeck Canada Inc.
