The UBC Pharmacists Clinic is helping chronic headache sufferers with their long wait times to see a specialist at the UBC Headache Clinic.
Before seeing a specialist, patients now go through an hour-long screening with a pharmacist at the clinic. This consultation helps to establish a common understanding of the patient’s condition and their medication history. It also helps to identify some of the root causes of a patient’s headaches.
By the time patients do arrive at the headache clinic, they can focus on the deeper issues.
“Some patients have had their headaches reduce dramatically, just by being counselled by the pharmacist about how to take their medication properly,” said Dr. Sian Spacey in a statement.
The partnership between the UBC Pharmacists Clinic and the UBC Headache Clinic began in June as a pilot.
