Members of the public play a key role on College committees. In addition to a unique perspective, they help ensure transparency and bring a wider range of knowledge and skills to enhance the effectiveness of the committee.
If you or someone you know might be interested in volunteering and has an interest on serving on a committee, working to ensure safe and effective pharmacy care for British Columbians, this might be the opportunity for you! Public members come from a wide variety of backgrounds, professions, ages, and experiences and share with their pharmacy professional colleagues on the committee the following characteristics:
- high ethical standards
- integrity in professional and personal dealings;
- appreciation of the responsibilities to the public;
- ability and willingness to raise potentially controversial issues in a manner that encourages dialogue;
- ability to be flexible, responsive and willing to consider others’ opinions;
- capable of a wide perspective on issues;
- ability to work as a team member;
- no direct or indirect conflict of interest while carrying out their duties on the committee; and strong reasoning skills.
While committee meetings are held on a handful of weekday evenings during the year, attendance by teleconferencing is always available (and dinner is provided for those attending on site). Terms are for one year and you are eligible to reapply. If you have any skills or experience such as those listed below, please indicate that in your , it is possible to attend via tele- or videoconferencing. If you also have any of the skills or experiences listed below, please indicate that on your application as well:
- legal, financial, operational, or technical expertise
- knowledge of how government operates, or about health sciences in general
- previous executive and leadership experience.
- service on boards or committees of any kind.
