PharmaNet Support Services Transitioning to Ministry of Health

Effective April 1, 2017, the Ministry of Health will be responsible for all PharmaNet patient profile corrections. These errors will no longer be reported to, or corrected by, the College of Pharmacists of BC

This represents the first phase in the Ministry of Health’s transition of PharmaNet Support Services from the College of Pharmacists of BC back to the Ministry.

PharmaNet is a valuable tool for protecting public safety. The province-wide network allows health professionals to review a patient’s complete medication history and access up-to-the-minute information regarding drug allergies and harmful interactions before dispensing prescription products. PharmaNet data is available to community pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, emergency departments, community health practices, the College of Pharmacists of BC, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC.

The transition of support services ensures that the Ministry of Health, as Data Steward of PharmaNet, is accountable for data quality, corrections, and information access. The College is working with the Ministry of Health to ensure a smooth transition process for PharmaNet Support Services.

Transitioning PharmaNet Support Services

PharmaNet Support Services will begin transitioning from the College to the Ministry of Health in April 2017.

Corrections to patient profiles and management of clinical drug information records will be transitioned as of April 1, 2017

The transition will have minimal effect on current PharmaNet users and patients.

Reporting Patient Profile Corrections

Beginning April 1, 2017, all patient record corrections should be directed to the Ministry of Health Data Quality Services Team.
